Tips for Attending the Lexington Book Festival

A book festival is a gathering of readers and writers. The Lexington Book Festival will feature 15 authors in panel discussions, as well as several storytimes for young readers.

While children's authors are offering storytimes where they will read their books, the panels are meant to be conversations, not readings. Come learn about the process of writing the books and what inspired the authors to make the choices they did in telling their stories.

If you've read the books, bring your questions! This is your chance to ask authors face to face about characters, plots, that ending you loved or hated, and more!

Even if you haven't read the books, come get a sneak peek during the panels. You might just discover a new favorite! All panel discussions will be spoiler-free.

Plan Your Day:

  • Look at the schedule and make a tentative plan for your day. Decide which author sessions and book signings you would like to attend. Also allow time to visit the vendors and explore Uptown Lexington.

  • There is limited seating, and we cannot allow more attendees in a room than chairs. For authors you definitely want to see, arrive early since there may be a line to enter some of the sessions.

  • Except for the 20-minute storytimes, panel discussions will begin on the hour and last 45 minutes with 15 minutes in between each session. Please be seated several minutes before a session begins.

Venue:

  • All events will be at Arts Davidson at 202 N. Main Street in Lexington. Lexington Book Festival feather flags will be at each entrance.

  • For events in the Black Box Theatre, enter Arts Davidson from the front entrance on Main Street.

  • For events in the Auxiliary Space, enter from Greensboro Street or through the parking lot to the right of Arts Davidson.

  • Information tables will be located in the lobby of Arts Davidson and in the indoor vendor area.

Books and Book Signing:

  • Books by the featured authors will be sold by Pig City Books in the lobby of Arts Davidson. If you definitely want to purchase a book to have signed, buy it early since there will be a limited number of books.

  • Book signing will be in the indoor vendor area, but the line will be outside. Plan for the weather and bring an umbrella and rain jacket.

Parking:

  • Free parking is available in the Truist parking lot at 209 N. Main Street and throughout Uptown Lexington. The parallel parking spots along streets are not ticketed.

Vendors:

  • Outdoor vendors will be located in the two parking lots at the intersection of W. 2nd Street and N. Greensboro Street.

  • Indoor vendors can be accessed through the parking lot at the rear of Arts Davidson.

  • The event is rain or shine. Plan for the weather and bring an umbrella and rain jacket.

Survey:

  • The Lexington Book Festival is a nonprofit, and to keep the festival free, we need to fundraise and write grants. And grantmakers like data! Please complete the survey to help us talk about the benefits of the festival to funders.
