Rebecca Bruff
Rebecca’s journey as a storyteller is as remarkable as the tales she shares. Born in Amarillo, Texas, she developed a love for language and stories early on, even though her formal studies initially took her in another direction. With degrees in education and theology, she spent years as an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, serving communities, leading cross-cultural partnerships, and traveling the world to discover extraordinary stories.
One such story changed her life: the tale of Robert Smalls, a courageous man whose heroism inspired her debut historical novel, Trouble the Water. This award-winning book has captivated readers and earned accolades, including the 2021 International Grand Prize for Best Book from Chanticleer Reviews.
Now residing in Beaufort, South Carolina, Rebecca volunteers at the Pat Conroy Literary Center and continues to write, recently publishing the children’s book Stars of Wonder and the non-fiction work Loving the World with God. She is passionate about the power of stories to spark curiosity, build empathy, and inspire change.
Rebecca will be sharing her journey, discussing her work, and signing books at the festival. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet an author who believes every story matters!
